Acer Launches Impressive Gaming Monitors at IFA 2024

Acer revealed its new gaming monitors at IFA 2024, and some models are quite impressive. Notably, the Acer Nitro XV240 F6 stands out with a remarkable 600Hz refresh rate.

Is the Speed Really Necessary?

This is the first monitor of its kind, and its price is attractive. However, whether anyone actually needs or can perceive such speed is debatable.

Overview of New Nitro Monitors

Before deciding if it’s worth it, let’s look at three new Nitro monitors that will be available in early 2025:

  • Nitro XV240 F6
  • Nitro XV270U F5
  • Nitro XV270 F5

All three have ultra-high refresh rates. That’s why Acer calls them “Nitro Ultraspeed.” However, each model is a bit different.

Nitro XV240 F6

The Nitro XV240 F6 is a 24-inch 1080p monitor with a GtG response time as low as 0.1 ms.

  • VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified
  • Covers up to 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut
  • Priced at $600

This model is cheaper than some 540Hz monitors like the Asus ROG Swift Pro. The downside? It uses a TN panel, which has less vibrant colors and narrower viewing angles. You’re sacrificing visual quality for that extreme refresh rate.

Nitro XV270 F5

The Nitro XV270 F5 is one of two 27-inch “UltraSpeed” displays. It features:

  • 1080p resolution
  • 520Hz refresh rate
  • 0.5ms GtG response time

This model is HDR10-certified and has an IPS panel, which should provide better contrast and brighter visuals. Like the TN model, this one is also priced at $600.

Nitro XV270U F5

Finally, there’s the $800 Nitro XV270U F5, a 27-inch WQHD (2,560 x 1,440) display with an IPS panel and a 500Hz refresh rate. While it’s the slowest of the three, the higher resolution and IPS panel make it stand out, as does the higher price.

Compatibility and Target Audience

All three monitors are AMD FreeSync Premium compatible. They aim to reduce screen stuttering and tearing, which is crucial for fast-paced games like FPS. The two 27-inch models seem versatile for different gamers. But, the 600Hz model raises questions about its true worth. Personally, I’m not a fan of TN panels, but they do have their place in competitive gaming.

Additional Announcements

Acer also launched new smart monitors with WebOS and new Predator gaming monitors. Although not the fastest, the Predator models are still remarkable. They include a 360Hz WQHD model and a 4K model that reaches 160Hz.
