Apple is advancing its robotics plans with a new tabletop device featuring a robotic arm, smart home capabilities, and a 2026-2027 launch target.
Apple is advancing in creating a new tabletop robot, says Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. The company first mentioned its robotics plans in April. This included a mobile robot designed to follow users around their homes.
Now, Apple is working on a smart home device. It will have a robotic arm. It will act as a command center, a videoconferencing tool, and a remote-controlled security system.
HomePod-Like Device with Robotic Arm:
Apple is also working on a HomePod-like device that has a screen mounted on a robotic arm. This device merges an iPad-like display with a robotic arm. The screen can tilt, swivel, and rotate 360 degrees. This design enhances movement. The project, involving hundreds, has Apple’s approval. It’s progressing well.
Kevin Lynch leads the development team. He is Apple’s VP of technology and the former leader of the Apple Car project.
Matt Costello heads the HomePod development.
Apple is also exploring other robotics projects, which include:
- Mobile home robots
- Humanoid robots
Hanns Wolfram Tappeiner heads a team of 100 engineers in robotics. Users will mainly interact with the device through Siri and other Apple features. It currently runs on a modified iPadOS. It may also include voice recognition. It should respond to commands like **“look at me”** to focus on the speaker. Expected pricing and launch date.
Apple plans to launch this tabletop robotic device by 2026 or 2027. The expected price is around $1,000. However, these details may change as the project develops further.
