Apple Narrows Gap Between iPhone 16 Pro and Non-Pro Models

Upcoming iPhone 17 Lineup

Apple makes all iPhone 16 models more alike with 8GB RAM, adds new features like Action and Capture buttons, and upgrades cameras for 2025.

Pro Models vs. Non-Pro Models

Apple’s iPhone Pro models stand out. They offer better features than the non-Pro models. The Pro series includes:

  • A superior processor
  • Advanced cameras
  • A 120Hz ProMotion display
  • More RAM
  • Extra storage options
  • Thinner bezels

Similarities in the iPhone 16 Models

This year, Apple is making all four iPhone 16 models more similar by giving them 8GB of RAM. This change is likely to support Apple Intelligence, which needs at least 8GB of RAM to function. Next year, the iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to have 12GB of RAM, while the non-Pro models will have 8GB.

New Features for iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will have an Action button. This button allows quick tasks, like:

  • Opening the camera
  • Turning on the flashlight

They will also get a Capture button, which enables zooming by swiping. It acts as a shutter for photos and videos.

A18 Processor in All Models

All four iPhone 16 models will feature the A18 processor, made by TSMC using a 3nm process. However, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will have fewer GPU cores than the A18 Pro chip in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Upcoming iPhone 17 Lineup

Analyst Jeff Pu says all four iPhone 17 models, due in 2025, will feature better front cameras. They will sport a 24MP sensor and six lenses. In contrast, the iPhone 15 models have a 12MP camera and five lenses. This upgrade will improve photo quality by reducing distortions and errors.

The iPhone 17 lineup next year will include:

  • iPhone 17
  • iPhone 17 “Slim”
  • iPhone 17 Pro
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max
