Explore the latest beta updates from Apple, including iOS 18.1, visionOS 2, and macOS Sequoia 15, with new features and fixes.
Apple Releases New Beta Versions for All Devices: What’s New
Apple has launched new beta versions of its operating systems. They are for phones, tablets, computers, watches, set-top boxes, and AR headsets. Here’s a summary of the changes.
iOS 18.1
The main feature in iOS 18.1 is Apple Intelligence, though it’s still being fine-tuned. One issue was with the new Siri interface on large Apple CarPlay displays, but this should be fixed now.
iOS 18
Apple is also working on iOS 18, now in its sixth beta. This version introduces features like Place ID in Apple Maps, which is a unique and persistent identifier. Also, when adding your ID to Wallet, you may be asked to take a photo of it to help prevent fraud.
visionOS 2
Developers working with the Apple Vision Pro can test visionOS 2 beta 6. This update allows more flexibility by increasing the maximum distance between apps. You can now move compatible apps out of the Compatible Apps folder and place them alongside visionOS-specific apps. Plus, you can use game controllers to interact with the system UI.
macOS Sequoia 15
The macOS Sequoia 15 beta 6 brings several fixes. Notably, it reduces the storage needed for downloading apps from the App Store. Now, you only need the app’s size plus a small buffer, instead of double the space.
A stable release of iOS 18 is expected this fall, with iOS 18.1 following soon after.
