Apple to Use OLED Screens for All iPhones from 2025, Ending LCD Use

Apple to Use OLED

Starting in 2025, Apple will use OLED displays for all iPhones, per a report from Japan’s Nikkei newspaper. It will move away from LCDs.

OLED displays are now the top choice for TV and smartphone makers. They have more vivid colors and sharper contrast. This makes them ideal for high-definition videos.

So, Japan’s Sharp Corp and Japan Display, which supply Apple with LCDs, will no longer be part of Apple’s iPhone business. Sharp and Japan Display had a 70% share of iPhone displays about ten years ago. But, they have only supplied LCDs for the iPhone SE in recent years. They do not produce OLED displays for smartphones on a large scale.

Apple has begun ordering OLED displays for the new iPhone SE from China’s BOE Technology and South Korea’s LG Display, the report says.

Apple first used OLED panels in its 2017 iPhone X. Since then, it has used them in its premium iPhones. The latest iPad Pro models, released in May, also feature OLED screens.
