iPhone 16 Camera Specs Leak

Apple Insider shared possible camera specs for the iPhone 16 series. They show differences from the previous models:

iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus

  • These models might come with a 48MP (f/1.6) + 12MP camera setup, similar to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
  • The 12MP ultrawide camera could have a wider f/2.2 aperture, allowing for better low-light photos.
  • Expect the same 2x zoom from the main camera and 0.5x zoom out from the ultrawide camera as on the iPhone 15 series.
  • Regular iPhones might also get a macro mode. It was only on the Pro models before.
  • The rear cameras might be stacked vertically. The iPhone 15 series has a diagonal arrangement.

iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max

  • Both models might have a 48MP main camera. It has an f/1.78 aperture and 1.22µm pixel size. It captures detailed 12MP photos with 2x optical zoom.
  • The 12MP telephoto camera with f/2.8 aperture could offer 5x zoom on both models (previously only on Pro Max).
  • The ultrawide camera could upgrade from 12MP to 48MP. It would let you take full 48MP photos or 12MP pixel-binned shots.
  • You might also be able to shoot advanced 48MP ProRaw photos.

Capture Button

  • A new Capture button could be present on all four models, located on the lower right side of the phone.
  • It’s a capacitive button. It responds to touch, not pressure. It won’t accidentally activate in your pocket.
  • You could tap it to open a camera app, half-press to control focus and exposure, or fully press to take a photo.
  • The button might let you slide your finger across it. This could perform other actions, like zooming or changing filters, depending on the app.

Other Camera Upgrades

  • The iPhone 16 series might support the new JPEG-XL format. It has smaller file sizes, better color, and HDR.
  • The Pro models could record 3K video at 120 FPS with Dolby Vision. The iPhone 15 Pro series maxes out at 4K at 60 FPS and 1080P at 240 FPS.
