Nothing’s founder, Carl Pei, and its software design head, Yuri Levin, announced the new features of Nothing OS 3.0. This comes after a teaser earlier this year.
What’s New in Nothing OS 3.0:
- Visual Updates: The system’s appearance has been updated. It now features a redesigned Quick Settings panel and lock screen clock. Also, an auto-brightness option is now in the brightness slider for easier control.
- Dot Animation Engine: Dot matrix animations are well-known. They have been upgraded with a new engine. This makes them smoother and more dynamic.. This includes animations for the fingerprint sensor and charging. The weather app also shows dot matrix weather icons with added animations.
- AI Features: The system’s AI has been improved. It now sorts apps into categories in the smart drawer. It automatically categorizes images and supports natural language search. Future updates will include AI-powered super resolution and image generation.
- Personalization: Users can personalize their home screens with interactive, shared widgets.. The gallery app now has better tools for managing and editing photos. A new countdown widget lets you track the time until a specific event.
- Performance Boosts: The system has been optimized for better performance. Apps launch faster. Animations are smoother. Gallery photo transitions are 1.4x quicker. HDR and portrait effects are 25% faster.
Availability
The open beta for Nothing OS 3.0 will start in October, with a full, stable release planned for December 2024. More information about supported devices and rollout timelines will be shared soon.
