Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X-Series Chipsets
Qualcomm offers two types of Snapdragon X-series chipsets:
- X Plus: Features a 10-core Oryon CPU
- X Elite: Comes with a 12-core Oryon CPU
Upcoming 8-Core Version
A recent leak from Evan Blass has revealed details about an upcoming 8-core version of the X Plus chipset. This version is expected to launch in laptops at the IFA Berlin event.
Key Features of the 8-Core X Plus Chipset
- 8-core Oryon CPU: Slightly reduced from the original
- CoPilot+ notebooks: Starting price of $800
Performance Specifications
According to earlier reports, this new chip will provide:
- 3.4GHz boost for single-core tasks
- 3.2GHz boost for multi-core tasks
GPU and RAM Support
This version will also include:
- Adreno GPU: Scaled-down performance of 1.7 TFLOPS (compared to 3.8 TFLOPS in the standard X Plus)
- LPDDR5X RAM: Features a 30MB total cache (compared to 42MB in the full X Plus version)
Monitor Support
It will support up to three external monitors at:
- UHD resolution
- 60Hz refresh rate (instead of 4K at 120Hz)
Advanced Features
Despite the reductions, the chip will still include:
- Qualcomm Hexagon NPU: Offers 45 TOPS
- Always-Sensing ISP
- Wi-Fi 7
- 5G support
This new chipset will perform well and be more affordable.
