Smallest Mac mini with M4 chips could launch this 2024

Apple’s new Mac mini redesign features M4 and M4 Pro chips, smaller size, and enhanced capabilities, set for release later this year.

Apple is reportedly planning a major redesign of the Mac mini. This would be its first big update since 2010. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reported this.

The new Mac mini, due later this year, will be much smaller than the current model. It will be the size of an Apple TV.

Mac mini M4 Features

The upcoming Mac mini will have two versions. One will have an M4 chip. The other will have an M4 Pro chip. Both are codenamed J773.

It will include at least three USB-C ports, an HDMI port, and a power cable. The M4 Pro version will also support more RAM and better graphics.

The new Mac mini will be smaller but possibly taller than the current 1.4-inch model. It will keep its aluminum casing and be likened to “an iPad Pro in a small box.”

Updates and Release Timeline

Apple plans to update its Mac lineup with M4 chips over the next year. This year, the Mac mini, iMac, and MacBook Pro will get M4 chips. Meanwhile, the Mac Pro, Mac Studio, and MacBook Air upgrades are expected in 2025.

Availability and Pricing

The base model of the new Mac mini is set to ship from suppliers this month, with a general release later this year. The higher-end model is expected to be available in October.

The Mac mini M2 currently starts at $599. Although the new model might be cheaper to make, it’s uncertain if these savings will lower the consumer price, says Gurman.
